Today I had the priviledge of interviewing a very noble, determined and persevering individual by the name of Glenda Watson Hyatt who is the author of a new book entitled Ï'll Do It Myself!"

1. What was your inspiration for writing the book I'll Do It Myself and once you decided to write it what steps did you take to put the ball in motion?
When I was about ten years old, I read books like Ice Castles about a talented figure skater who became blind but continued competing by hiding her disability, The Other Side of the Mountain about an Olympic-bound skier who broke her neck during a qualifying competition, and Joni, who also became a quadriplegic as a result of a diving accident. Since then, I have dreamt of writing my autobiography one day to share my story with others and hopefully inspire or motivate them in some way.
I began writing the first draft four or five years ago. It was always aside when something more important or urgent came along. In October of 2005, when I announced on my other blog that I wanted to launch my book on my fortieth birthday, that sure got the ball rolling! It has been full speed ahead ever since.
2. Who else has played a key part in making sure that you went through with writing your book and having it self-published?
My husband Darrell was, and continues to be, extremely supportive and encouraging as I journeyed through the book writing and self-publishing process. He made it possible for me to complete my book at this point in my life.
My Mom is also a strong supporter. And, even though she is fairly new to computers and to the internet, she has followed every day of my "40 Days in 40 (Business) Days". Having her share in this adventure with me makes it extra special. (Hi Mom!)
Many others encouraged me along the way; particularly, Pamela Slim of Escape from Cubicle Nation. She is in the early stages of writing a book, so we have supported, encouraged and applied a gentle kick when needed for each other, usually late at night via email.
3. Do you consider yourself to be a mentor to others who are following their dreams and doing what they love while dealing with major challenges or physical disabilities? And what would you say to encourage these individuals further?
Definitely. By sharing my experiences and lessons learned, I enjoy encouraging others to follow their dreams and passions despite any obstacles they face. I would say never give up on your dream or on yourself. The road may be long; there may be potholes or gigantic mountains along the way; it may feel impossible or you may need to take another path, but never give up. Tell everyone along the way about your dream; some will be naysayers, but some will be amazing supporters in ways that you can’t imagine!
4. What did you enjoy most and least about writing your book?
I enjoyed telling my story and having complete control in how it was told. The editing process wasn't as enjoyable, and was actually painful at times. However, I did learn ways to improve my writing.
5. What will your next big adventure be?
I am still waiting for the seed of my next big dream to be planted. For now, I'm going to savour a while longer making my dream of writing my autobiography reality.
